A few years ago, an illustrator friend of mine came up with a concept for a humor book - “How to Install Your Lightsaber.” The idea was to create humorous technical manuals for fictional devices such as a Star Wars Lightsaber or Doctor Who’s sonic screwdriver. He reached out to me as someone who was both a technical writer and wrote prose fiction and humor. Together, we came up with a few draft ideas for the book, wrote them up, illustrated them, and submitted them as queries to various publishers. Unfortunately, the proposals never went anywhere, so we both eventually moved on to other projects. I still have the text for the sample pieces I wrote, though, so I present one here - the Flux Capacitor Installation Guide from Back to the Future. Enjoy!

OVERVIEW
The flux capacitor is the core component that makes time travel possible in the DeLorean DMC-12 time machine. This device creates the temporal displacement field necessary for chronological navigation through the space-time continuum.
CRITICAL WARNING: Improper installation may result in temporal paradoxes, spontaneous combustion, or accidental travel to the Cretaceous Period.
